Key takeaways from Fortinet's Zero Trust State of the Art report
Although the Zero Trust security model has been around for over a decade, it has recently gained more attention as modern networks become more distributed and must support hybrid operations anywhere. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the sudden need to support remote workers, it quickly became apparent that traditional VPNs were not up to the task, and the best approach to manage and protect users who are not permanently located was to initiate a zero-trust strategy. In this strategy, anyone trying to connect to the network is considered a potential threat.
Each user must be vetted before being allowed to access resources. Fortinet surveyed 570 IT and security executives from 31 countries in April, covering nearly every industry, including the public sector. The 2023 Zero Trust Strategy Status Report provides insight into IT teams' progress in implementing their projects. It also highlights some challenges teams have faced in securing rapidly changing and expanding network environments.
